June 5, 2026 – September 30, 2026

Cost: Free

Born on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, Arthur Short Bull (Tatanka Ptecila) carries forward a generations-long tradition of Lakota storytelling through painting and poetry. Descended from Grant Short Bull, uncle to renowned ledger artist Amos Bad Heart Bull, Short Bull’s work honors the histories, landscapes, and cultural memory of the Oglala Lakota people.

Working across painting and poetry, Short Bull explores themes of Native identity, resilience, spirituality, and the enduring relationship between people and land. His practice began as a personal outlet while working in substance abuse treatment centers across the Midwest, evolving into a lifelong commitment to cultural preservation and education. Today, his work serves as both artistic expression and a tool for sharing Lakota history with future generations.

Alongside reflections on Lakota heritage, Short Bull’s work captures the wildlife and landscapes of the Rocky Mountain West, with paintings held in private and public collections throughout the United States and Europe.

This is the first public exhibition in the space since CAST’s acquisition of the historic East Street School.

Viewing is available by appointment only. To schedule a visit, please contact us.
