Welcome to “Breaking Ground”
San Francisco Recreation & Parks groundbreaking ceremony at Geneva Car Barn with Performing Arts Workshop, March 2018.
In real estate, there is often much fanfare around groundbreaking ceremonies that celebrate the start of construction. But what about all the steps it took to get there?
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Breaking Ground, our newest communications effort that seeks to uplift and amplify the stories of our community, shedding light on the extensive work that comes before shovels even hit the ground.
For CAST, what comes before a space is secured or building erected is an area of our work that we can’t often share in great detail because of non-disclosure agreements. The negotiation process in a real estate transaction requires operating with a high level of discretion, so when you do hear about a project, it’s likely we’ve already invested 1-3+ years in the “pre-development” work.
Breaking Ground is an ongoing storytelling series that captures the spirit of our vibrant community–artists who are groundbreaking in their own right, community leaders and entrepreneurs rooted in their commitment to transformative healing and systems change, and longtime residents who are the life force of their neighborhoods.
By sharing profiles and reflections from our partners, fellow artists, neighbors, friends, and local residents, we hope to provide insight into the immense collaborative effort and energy it takes to embark on the pathway to stability.
Through their stories, we invite you to connect to our community partners who deeply inspire CAST’s work and make the Bay Area the special place we call home. Join us on the Breaking Ground journey!
