Vacant to Vibrant

Vacant to Vibrant is a program helping small businesses collaborate with local property owners to create engaging pop-up experiences and community spaces in downtown San Francisco.

 

DEADLINE:

Applications for the first cohort of activators will be accepted until June 1, 2023.

THE PROGRAM:

Vacant to Vibrant is a program that supports small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural organizations to connect to local property owners to create engaging pop-up experiences and community spaces in downtown San Francisco.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

San Francisco has experienced a significant increase in storefront vacancies and we now have the opportunity to collectively envision and build a different kind of downtown. We are seeking creative pop up proposals from small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural organizations to shape the future of downtown San Francisco. Pitch us your idea to get in on the ground floor to build up a different downtown.

This application is for activators interested in operating a pop-up. If you are a property owner interested in hosting a pop-up, please apply here: vibrantsf.org/property. If you are a general SF enthusiast with an idea that you’d like to see come to life but not activate yourself, share your vision here: vibrantsf.org/general.

Selected pop-up activators will receive:

  • Grants from $3,000-$8,000

  • Technical assistance

  • Management of lease negotiations and space matchmaking

  • Permitting and marketing support

  • Up to 3 months of free rent

  • Insurance provided, as needed

Value for Property Owners:

  • Up to $5,000 to cover property expenses and tenant improvements

  • Tax deduction for leased space

  • Marketing material

  • Permitting

  • One primary tenant

  • Attractive, activated space

 

Host Application

Vacant to Vibrant is a program designed and operated by SF New Deal and the City of San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development.
